第四話 由比本陣公園と由比の歴史 ７．広重美術館を後にして
広重美術館を後にして
御幸亭（みゆきてい）の茶室には、由比の人々の暮らしに通じる名前が付けられています。その名は「結仁斎（ゆいじんさい）」。この「結」という字には、かつて由比で行われていた共同作業の意味が込められているそうです。
昔、由比で塩作りを行う際には、近所の人たちが集まって一軒の家を手伝い、それが終わると次の家を手伝いました。田植えなどでも見られる「結いをとる」という助け合いの形です。由比という地名についても、案内人の望月さんは、仲間の活動では「由比」の「由」ではなく、「結ぶ」の「結」を使っていると話していました。
「結仁斎」という名には、人と人を結ぶという意味が重ねられています。かつて大名が泊まる本陣であったこの場所は、今では由比本陣公園として整備され、訪れる人々が歴史にふれる場所となっています。
今回お話を伺ったのは、ふるさと案内人の望月一成さんと、静岡市東海道広重美術館学芸員の大石沙織さんです。
由比本陣公園には東海道由比交流館が併設され、無料で見学できます。御幸亭は大人百五十円、小中学生五十円で、月曜日は休館です。静岡市東海道広重美術館は、一般五百円、大学生・高校生三百円、中学生以下と静岡市内在住の七十歳以上の方は無料で見学できます。
After Leaving the Hiroshige Museum
The tea room inside Miyukitei carries a name that reflects the long-standing spirit of the people of Yui. The room is called Yuijinsai. The character yui here is written with the character meaning “to tie” or “to connect.”
According to the local guide, in earlier times the people of Yui helped one another during salt production. When work at one household was finished, neighbors would move on to assist the next household. The same kind of shared labor was also practiced during rice planting, and this cooperative custom was called yui wo toru. The name of the tea room is said to express this idea of mutual cooperation.
Today, the place name Yui is usually written with the characters used in “Yuigahama,” but the guide explained that in some local groups they intentionally use the character for “connection” or “binding” instead. In this sense, Yuijinsai can be understood as “a place that connects people through benevolence.”
This site once served as a honjin, lodging for feudal lords traveling along the Tōkaidō. Today, it remains as Yui Honjin Park, where visitors stop to learn about the history of the post town and the people who lived there.
The stories introduced here were shared by local heritage guide Issei Mochizuki and Saori Oishi, curator of the Shizuoka City Tōkaidō Hiroshige Museum of Art.
Yui Honjin Park includes the Tōkaidō Yui Exchange Center, which can be visited free of charge. Admission to Miyukitei is 150 yen for adults and 50 yen for elementary and junior high school students. The building is closed on Mondays.
Admission to the Shizuoka City Tōkaidō Hiroshige Museum of Art is 500 yen for adults and 300 yen for university and high school students. Junior high school students and younger visitors, as well as residents of Shizuoka City aged 70 and older, may enter free of charge.
