『追分羊かん』を訪ねて
東海道には、各地へ向かう分かれ道がいくつもありました。現在の清水区にも、街道の分岐を意味する「追分」という地名が残っています。その場所で古くから店を構えるのが「追分羊かん」です。
追分羊かんのある場所は、東海道と清水湊へ向かう「志ミづ道（清水道）」が交わる大切な分岐点でした。交差点であることから「追分」と呼ばれ、店も東海道追分の羊かんとして、自然に「追分羊かん」と呼ばれるようになったといいます。羊かん作りは約三百二十年続いているそうです。
店の前を通る道が旧東海道です。かつては松並木が残っていたと伝えられていますが、戦時中になくなったといいます。その道を大名行列が通り、旅人が行き交った時代を思い浮かべることができます。
一方、店の東側には幅二メートルほどの細い道があります。これが清水湊へ向かう志ミづ道で、歩いて四十分ほどで清水湊に至ったといいます。現在は路地のように見えますが、かつては清水湊に揚がった荷物を運んだり、魚を駿府の町へ運んだりする重要な道でした。
追分羊かんのある場所は、東海道の旅人と清水湊の物流が交わる、清水の交通の結び目だったのです。
Visiting “Oiwake Yokan”
Along the Tokaido, there were many branching roads leading to different regions. In what is now Shimizu Ward, the place name “Oiwake,” meaning a road junction, still remains. One long-established shop located there is Oiwake Yokan.
The location of Oiwake Yokan was once an important junction where the Tokaido met the “Shimizu Road,” known as Shimizu-michi, leading toward Shimizu Minato. Because it was a crossroads, the area came to be called “Oiwake,” meaning “branching road,” and the shop naturally became known as Oiwake Yokan, the yokan of the Tokaido Oiwake. The shop is said to have been making yokan for approximately 320 years.
The road running in front of the shop is the old Tokaido. It is said that pine trees once lined the road, although they disappeared during the war years. The road recalls a time when daimyo processions and travelers passed along this route.
To the east of the shop is a narrow road about two meters wide. This was the Shimizu-michi leading toward Shimizu Minato, and it is said that the port could be reached on foot in about forty minutes. Although it now appears to be a small alley, it was once an important route used to transport cargo unloaded at Shimizu Minato and to carry fish to the town of Sunpu.
The area around Oiwake Yokan was therefore a key point in Shimizu where travelers on the Tokaido and the flow of goods connected to Shimizu Minato came together.
