エレーヌのメモリアルコーナー
静岡市立清水中央図書館には、エレーヌ・ジュグラリス夫人に関する資料を紹介するメモリアルコーナーがあります。この展示は、平成四年の図書館開館に合わせ、ご遺族から寄贈された品々を中心につくられました。
展示の中には、夫のマルセル氏が清水を訪れた際に持参した、エレーヌ夫人の遺髪を納めた袋があります。遺髪は三保に建てられた羽衣の碑にも納められており、その一部が図書館にも展示されています。
また、能「羽衣」を演じる際にエレーヌ夫人が身にまとった衣装も展示されています。写真や資料を参考にしながら、布を選び、縫製し、絵も自ら描いて作った衣装とされています。最後までこの衣装をまとって舞ったと伝えられています。
衣装とともに使われた能面も残されています。作者ははっきりしていませんが、江戸時代中期ごろの作ではないかといわれています。エレーヌ夫人は最後の舞台でもこの面をつけ、天女が天に帰る場面で倒れたと伝えられています。
さらに、宝生九朗の録音によるレコードや、エレーヌ夫人がそれらをもとに作った能の楽譜も展示されています。耳で聞き取り、夫のマルセル氏や通訳者たちの協力を得ながら書き起こされたもので、能「羽衣」に近づこうと試行錯誤した跡が残されています。
清水中央図書館のメモリアルコーナーでは、エレーヌ夫人が日本の能「羽衣」に寄せた思いと、それを支えた人々の努力を、資料を通して知ることができます。
Hélène’s Memorial Corner
At the Shizuoka City Shimizu Central Library, there is a memorial corner dedicated to materials related to Madame Hélène Juglaris. This exhibition was created when the library opened in 1992 and is centered on items donated by her family.
Among the exhibits is a small pouch containing a portion of Madame Hélène’s hair, brought to Shimizu by her husband, Marcel. Her hair was also placed inside the Hagoromo monument built in Miho, and part of it was entrusted to the library for display.
Also exhibited is the costume Madame Hélène wore while performing the Noh play Hagoromo. It is said that she selected the fabric herself, sewed the garment, and painted the designs while studying photographs and reference materials. According to those connected with the exhibition, she continued to wear this costume until her final performance.
The Noh mask used together with the costume is also preserved. Although the maker is unknown, it is believed to date from around the middle of the Edo period. It is said that Madame Hélène wore this mask during her final performance and collapsed during the scene in which the heavenly maiden returns to heaven.
The memorial corner also displays records of recordings by Hōshō Kurō and Noh musical scores created by Madame Hélène based on those recordings and other materials. The handwritten annotations show how she listened carefully and worked together with her husband Marcel and interpreters in an effort to recreate the Noh play Hagoromo.
The memorial corner at the Shimizu Central Library introduces, through these materials, Madame Hélène’s devotion to the Japanese Noh play Hagoromo and the efforts of the people who supported her work.
