全盛時代の清水駅前銀座商店街

清水駅前銀座商店街が、もっともにぎわっていたのはいつ頃だったのでしょうか。

戦後、バラックの店から始まった商店街では、昭和30年代になると、鉄筋造りの建物が少しずつ建つようになりました。ミナト市場、通称「みなとマーケット」も、昭和33年に鉄筋４階建ての建物になったそうです。トラヤの建て替えや長崎屋の出店もあり、商店街には大型店が加わっていきました。

金子さんは、昭和30年代後半から昭和48年頃までを、商店街がもっともにぎわった時期として振り返ります。当時は、通りを行き交う人の頭で、ここから駅前の大和屋が見えないほどだったといいます。今なら見通せる駅前までの通りが、買い物客で埋まっていました。

商店街では「夜店市」も開かれていました。清水銀座では、夏に「おばけ市」という催しもあったそうです。夕食を済ませてから、もう一度まちへ出かける人たちがいました。

その後、人の流れは変わっていきました。金子さんは、テレビが暮らしに広がったことも、その変化の一つとして挙げています。今の通りを歩きながら、駅前まで人が行き交っていた頃の商店街に思いを向けてみてください。

When was Shimizu Stationfront Ginza Shopping Street at its busiest?

After the war, shops here began in makeshift buildings. During the 1950s and early 1960s, buildings with reinforced concrete structures gradually appeared. Minato Ichiba, also known as Minato Market, moved into a four-story reinforced concrete building in 1958. Toraya rebuilt its premises, Nagasakiya opened a store, and larger shops became part of the shopping street.

Mr. Kaneko remembers the period from the early 1960s to around 1973 as the street’s busiest years. He says that the crowds were so dense that he could not see Yamato-ya, near the station, from here. Today, it is possible to see that far along the street.

The shopping street also held evening market events called Yomise Ichi. In summer, Shimizu Ginza held an event called Obake Ichi. People would go out again after dinner to visit the shopping streets.

Over time, the flow of people changed. Mr. Kaneko points to the spread of television in people’s homes as one reason. As you walk along the street today, consider the time when crowds of shoppers filled it all the way to the station.
